The basics
What is hungr?
hungr is a free food discovery app that puts real reviews from people you trust on a personal map. You keep three kinds of pins (want to go, been, and avoid), follow friends to see what they're actually eating, and read reviews from people who choose to share the cuisine background behind their taste.
Is hungr free?
Yes. Free to download, free to use, on iOS and Android. Claiming a business page is free too.
How is hungr different from Google Maps reviews?
Google averages thousands of anonymous strangers into one number. hungr shows you who is behind each review: your friends, or reviewers who opted in to share that they grew up with or deeply know a cuisine. hungr also lets you suppress cuisines you dislike so they stop appearing in your results, which Google Maps simply doesn't offer.
What do the three pin colours mean?
Golden means want to go, sage green means been, and clay red means avoid. Together they're your personal taste map, so you never have to remember a place twice.
Where is hungr available?
How old do I have to be to use hungr?
You must be at least 16 years old to use hungr.
Reviews and trust
What does "cuisine background" mean? Is it about ethnicity?
Cuisine background is an optional, self-declared note a reviewer can add about where their taste comes from: "grew up eating Sichuan food", "speaks Vietnamese", "makes her own kimchi". It's always opt-in, never inferred by us, and never used to filter people. It exists so you can weigh a review the way you'd weigh a friend's: by knowing who's talking.
Can I hide cuisines I don't like?
Yes, and it's one of our favourite features. Add any cuisine to your avoid list and hungr suppresses it from your searches and map. A place is only hidden if all of its cuisines are on your avoid list, so a Thai and Sichuan restaurant survives you avoiding Thai.
Where do the ratings and photos on a place page come from?
Two clearly separated sources. Place basics (names, hours, Google ratings, Google photos) come live from Google Maps and always carry attribution. Community reviews, tags, and photos are hungr's own, written by real users. You'll always know who's talking.
Can I save restaurants from TikTok videos?
Yes. Paste a food video link into hungr, confirm the matched place, and it lands on your map as a golden want to go pin. Your saved-videos folder, finally rescued.
Privacy and account
Does hungr sell my data?
No. hungr does not sell personal information. Our Privacy Policy spells out exactly what we collect and why, in actual English.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Settings, then Delete account. Deletion follows the process in our Privacy Policy. No dark patterns, no "are you really really sure" maze.
For businesses
How do I claim my restaurant on hungr?
Head to usehungr.app/for-restaurants and fill in the claim form. A real person verifies every claim, usually within a few days. It's free.
Can restaurants pay to remove bad reviews?
No. Reviews only come down if they break our Community Guidelines (fake or paid reviews, harassment, off-topic content). Trust is the whole product, we don't rent it out.
Still curious?
We answer every email. Usually with restaurant recommendations attached.
